The Backlog & Topic Promotion

You do not have to organize everything by hand. As you talk to the assistant , Story Teller collects the exchanges that have not yet been filed into a topic and, once enough accumulate, proposes organizing them for you. This is the backlog, and turning it into topics is promotion.

What the backlog is

The backlog is the set of conversation exchanges that have not yet been classified into a topic . When you chat with the assistant, each exchange starts out backlogged — captured, but not yet folded into your story’s memory.

You can see the state of the backlog on the Dashboard : how many exchanges are currently backlogged, and how many have been promoted recently.

Promotion

When the backlog reaches a threshold (four exchanges by default), Story Teller reviews the accumulated material against your existing topics and decides how to organize it. If it finds a new subject worth tracking, it:

  1. Creates a new topic of the right type, under the right parent.
  2. Links the backlogged exchanges to it, so the topic’s history is complete.
  3. Writes an initial memorandum summarizing what those exchanges established.

The result is that a conversation that wandered into new territory becomes a proper, searchable part of your story’s memory, without you having to stop and file it yourself.

You can change the promotion threshold in Settings — lower it to organize more eagerly, raise it to let more conversation accumulate first.
